Current research

i. Investigation of the suitability of agricultural wastes, wood wastes and assorted weeds for the manufacture of inorganic bonded composites. Extractives and other water-soluble chemical substances will be extracted from the particles produced from these raw materials using hot water, in order to prevent and reduce inhibitory effect on the setting and curing of the binder with the materials. Thereafter the following tests will be conducted: modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, thickness swelling, water absorption, linear expansion and Accelerated Aging.

ii. Production of plastic bonded board from agricultural wastes, wood wastes and assorted weeds using virgin plastic (HDPE), recycled plastic (LDPE) and Car battery case (CBC) as binders. Thereafter the following tests will be conducted: modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, thickness swelling, water absorption, linear expansion and Accelerated Aging.

iii. Manufacture of value-added ceiling boards using assorted waste papers and inorganic binder. Waste papers are collected, sorted to remove impurities, screened before soaking in water. Thereafter, defiberate, beating to a slurry state, mixed with cement, formed in a mould, transferred to the cold press, press for it to set and cure. Board will then be cut and subjected to strength and dimensional stability tests.

This research focus is designed to alleviate poverty, increase prosperity, mitigate climate change, allay siltation of waterways, and reduce environmental pollution. This research focus will also bring about innovations and provide new orientation in value addition to waste, construction works, architectural and engineering design.

Biography

I studied General Forestry in Nigeria; Timber and Material Technology in UK; Forest Industries Technology in UK; and Wood Science and Bio-Resources Technology in Nigeria. I became a Professor in 2010 and Head of Department in 2012. I have supervised many Undergraduate and Post Graduate students. My research focus is on Forestry and Wood Technology; Environmental management; bio-resources utilization for affordable value-added production, enhance healthy environment, check waterways siltation, eradicate poverty and climatic resilience. I have presented research products in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and Antarctica. I have also displayed my research works at various gatherings viz-a-viz Exhibit on Innovative Wood Products, 68th session, FAO/UN Economic Commission Europe Geneva, with SWST and 2011 International Year of Forest. I was privilege to attend the meeting of eminent scientists at XXIII IUFRO World Congress, Seoul; UN Framework Conference on Climate Change, Durbar, 2011; UN Framework Conference on Climate Change Doha, 2012; Centenary Forest Product Laboratory, US; University of Gottingen, Germany, 2008; 2017 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, UN DESA Partnership Exchange - Eradicating Poverty and Promoting Prosperity in a Changing World; HESI -Higher Education Institution - Key Driver of the SDG; Global Landscape Forum, 2017, Bonn, Germany. Initiate collaboration between FUTA and Brazilian institutions. Currently a Senior Expert to CTA.
