Biography

Abrham Belay Mekonnen holds BSc Degree in General Forestry, MSc Degree in Natural Resource Economics and policy from Hawassa University, Ethiopia. He has also completed post master research fellowship of one year in climate change and adaptation in CGIAR Research program on Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Nairobi, Kenya.

 From 2009-2011 Abrham was assistant lecturer at Hawassa University and from 2013 to 2014 he was serving as a lecturer academic level at the same university. As an academic staff, his responsibilities were teaching course, research and rendering community services. He has been teaching several natural resource, climate change and economics related courses. He has conducted research in climate change, participatory resources management, economic impact of climate change on agricultural production, smallholder farmer’s adaptation to climate change, economic valuation of forests and   contribution of agroforestry for food security and livelihood improvement.

From October 2013 -January 2015 he has been served as Natural Resource Economics and Policy Program coordinator. From September –December 2012, he was a graduate fellow at University of Helsinki, Finland. From February 2015 to February 2016 he was Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) research fellow at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), CGIAR Research program on Climate change agriculture and food security (CCAFS), Nairobi, Kenya. Since March 2016-to present, he has been working as lecturer and researcher at Hawassa University.    He has also taken relevant short courses and participated on international conferences in Germany, Finland, China, South Africa, Ghana, Sudan and Kenya.  His research interest encompasses socioeconomic aspect of climate change, agriculture and natural resource. Abrham has authored or co-authored referred journal articles
