Thu, 12/11/2014 - 04:17

The Royal Society, in partnership with the Department for International Development (DFID), will open the first round of applications for Programme Grants as part of its Royal Society - DFID Africa Capacity Building Initiative in November 2013. Applications will be invited in three priority areas:

·         Water & Sanitation
·          Renewable Energy
·         Soil-related Research

The main purpose of this new programme is to assist in strengthening the collaborations between scientists based in sub-Saharan Africa.

The level of support for Programme Grants: The awards will support research consortia of one UK lab and three African labs with up to just over £1.2million over five years, including 10% overheads. The first round of applications will be opened in late 2013, the second in late 2014. A total of 10 awards can be made over the two calls for applications.

The main challenge now is to ensure that the information is getting to researchers at relevant institutions across sub-Saharan Africa
