Biography

Samuel Olalekan Olajuyigbe obtained a BSc. in Forest Resources Management and MSc. in Forest Biology and Silviculture from the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria in 2004 and 2007, respectively. In both years, he graduated has the best student in the Department of Forest Resources Management. In 2007, he obtained a scholarship from the Irish Council on Forest Research and Development to pursue a PhD as a member of the Carbon Sequestration in Irish Forest Ecosystem (CARBiFOR II) Research team. He completed his PhD research project and successfully defended his work in October 2011.

Samuel, the second child of a family of six children, is an upcoming academic who has received several prizes and awards including: the Commonwealth Forestry Bureau Prize, Professor L.C. Nwoboshi Prize in Silviculture, Mr. O. K. Sokunbi’s Prize in Forestry, Professor Enabor’s Prize in Forest Economics, Undergraduate Federal Scholarship Award, Zard Scholar for Practical Year Training Programme, Tropical Biology Association Scholar, The Laurie Prize, The Nuffic fellowship and Short-term Scientific Mission Grant, COST Action 0803. From 2009- 2011, he was the facilitator of the Climate Change Course in the Global Issues Seminar Series of Suas Educational Development, Dublin Ireland. In 2014, he was inducted into the Nigerian Young Academy and continues to thrive as a member of the academy.  He is currently a member of the Next Generation Researchers, Nigeria Chapter.  He is currently the Secretary of the Forestry Association of Nigeria, Oyo state chapter.

Dr. Olajuyigbe continues to contribute to several peer reviewed journals, scientific conferences and seminars in research areas such as forest and climate change, agroforestry, biodegradation, ecosystem interactions, forest ecology, forest conservation and protection, carbon sequestration. He has developed keen interest in ecosystem restoration, conservation and natural resource management with a strong focus on forests and climate change. He is currently teaching and conducting research at the Department of Forest Production and Products, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, University of Ibadan.

Samuel believes in hard work, discipline and dedication to purpose, attributes he continues to instill in his students. He continues to mentor many students and encourages all to strive for excellence. He believes that with perseverance, students can actualize their dreams.
